This year each class have been paired with an author and our Class R author is Julia Donaldson. This year we will be learning all about our chosen author and reading all of her exciting books.
You may have heard of some of her fun books including: The Gruffalo, Snail on a Whale and Stick Man.
- P.E is on Tuesdays. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit with appropriate footwear.
- Homework will be given out on Fridays and should be returned to school by the following Thursday.
- Reading books are changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- Forest school is every Wednesday.
We are inviting parents of children in Reception to come into class and look at all of the amazing work the children have been doing in their books! You do not need to make an appointment. We will be allowing parents to come in from 2:45 till 3:10. This will run every Friday.
We are so excited to share all the fun learning we will be doing throughout the year!

Useful websites to support learning
Phonics Play https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/parents
Here you will find a selection of free Phonics resources and games to reinforce your child's learning in Phonics. We use these in school, so your child will be familiar with them. This website also has lots of useful information for parents and carers including understanding what Phonics is, what schools do and how you can support your child.
Jolly Phonics songs are also a fabulous way of helping your child to remember the individual phonemes that we learn. We love singing the songs and doing the actions! You can find the songs here: https://vimeo.com/106231366
Teach Your Monster to Read
https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/
This resource is in a game format. The computer version is completely free, or the content can be purchased as an app for a small fee. The game gives children opportunities to practise their Phonics skills including recognising individual phonemes and tricky words, blending and segmenting while taking their own monster on a magical journey!
Top Marks https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/counting
Here you will find a selection of free Maths games that we use in school. You can find a number of fun counting, matching, ordering, adding and subtracting games on this website.
Cbeebies https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies
The Cbeebies website has a number of videos, games and stories available to support our 'Theme' work. You can often find some of our weekly stories being read by famous people on Cbeebies Bedtime Stories.
