Welcome to Gwendolyn Brooks Class!

Miss Murray is our Class Teacher. We also have Ms Zan and Ms Dallas in class to assist us in our learning.

We have PE on a Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure children come to school in their PE kit each Tuesday as we will not be changing in class.

Please find information below about our curriculum for this term and check back regularly for information and photographs of our learning.

*****New paper packs of the set Home Learning will be available to collect from the front of the school office from Monday 22nd February******

February 2021

Dear Parents & Carers,

I have uploaded a second pack of learning below that will take us to 12th March 2021. These are also available to collect as a paper copy.

The paper copies are important as they also provide two CGP learning booklets for each child: one maths and one English. Some of our learning will come from these booklets. All resources are in a named envelope and will be available outside school from Monday 22nd February between 9am and 12pm.

I have included a daily English, maths, and topic/ other curriculum area tasks. In the booklet I have also included an example of a timetable you may want to use and Year 2 curriculum information.

I have also put together a list of useful websites that your children can use at home, these are games that we often use in class. Please click on the free links as we do not subscribe to play, and ensure children are supervised when using the internet.

Paper home learning packs will be available to collect from school on Friday 22nd but are available to download online.

Please continue to read at home each day, and remember children are constantly learning. I have attached a list of further activities children could try at the back of the home learning pack, as well as the links on this page.

We will be also be using 'Class Dojo' which is a fun, school based communication platform that teachers, children, and families can use every day to share learning. The simple app can be downloaded onto a smartphone or used through a web browser.

I will be uploading short videos, links and messages each day to support the learning and you can send me photos of learning that children complete each day via the app.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any guidance.

Take care and stay safe,

Ms Murray

Year 2 December Home Learning

Hello Gwendolyn Brooks Class! I'm so sad that we can't all be together this week for the end of term and in the lead up to Christmas. However, I am going to add lots of wonderful learning you can complete at home. Parents and carers, if you have any questions or want to show me anything the children have been up to, please don't hesitate to email me at Hope you all keep safe and healthy this festive season and have a merry Christmas!
Ms Murray

Part of your day should involve watching the Key Stage 1 Nativity performance. Everyone worked so hard to still put on a wonderful show this year even though we couldn't all be together or have an audience in the room. I hope you enjoy watching the show!
Today would have been our class party! I have uploaded some fun quizzes, but you may also want to plan a party with your family or play some games at home. Let me know how you celebrate today!

The Year Santa was Sick by Ms Murray

You may already be aware but I have self-published a story that I wrote all about Christmas this year and to raise money for children's charities. I have shared the story with the class already but thought I would upload it here also so that children can access it easily and read it. They may even want to draw an alternative front cover for it, write their own version or maybe even write a book review on it!

Welcome to Gwendolyn Brooks Class!

This year class names have been influenced by the Black Lives Matter movement and are named after people who have achieved incredible things. Gwendolyn Brooks was the first Black author to with the Pulitzer Prize for her writing. She was also poetry consultant to the Library of Congress, the first Black woman to hold that position, and poet laureate of the State of Illinois. She published a novel and many poetry collections, some for adults and others for children. We will look at some of her poetry for children throughout the year.
