Holy Trinity CofE Primary School

Rights Respecting

Holy Trinity is working towards Unicef’s Rights Respecting Schools Award, putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of our school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos.

Becoming a Rights Respecting School will enable our children to become more globally aware and develop an even stronger sense of awareness and understanding of rights and relationships, not just of children but of everyone in the school and wider community.

To help us become a Rights Respecting School, we have Leading Citizens, who have been voted in by the children and staff. We hold regular meetings to discuss the rights of children and how to embed them within the work of our school.

Classes spend time regularly discussing the differences between wants and needs and focusing on a particular right and what it may mean for them.

Article of the month - October

This month we will be looking at article 2: all children have the rights set out in the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child), and individual children and young people shouldn’t be discriminated against when these rights are realised. This covers both direct and indirect discrimination.
