Science
At Holy Trinity, science plays a vital role within the curriculum and is fundamental to our ambition of creating aspirational and knowledge-rich pupils.
Our children develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of science through a range of engaging, hands on activities. Their knowledge and understanding of important scientific ideas are developed, along with key processes and skills. Children are taught different ways of thinking, how to find things out and how to communicate their ideas effectively. Our science curriculum is sequenced coherently so useful knowledge and skills builds through the three distinct disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. We endeavour to make lessons thought provoking and inspiring, leading children to wonder, ask questions, research and then discuss their learning at home. Ultimately, we aspire to ensure the children become successful, confident learners, enjoying the process of exploring values and ideas through science.

Our vision at Holy Trinity
At Holy Trinity, we believe that science should encourage children to be critical thinkers and ask questions about the hows and whys of the world that surrounds them. Science within Holy Trinity aims to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about the past, present and future of science.
School Curriculum
We embed the science National Curriculum through carefully planned units that build knowledge and skills progressively across each year group. Teachers ensure lessons include practical enquiry, scientific vocabulary, and opportunities for children to ask questions, investigate, and explain their thinking. By linking learning to real-world contexts and revisiting key concepts, we help pupils develop a secure understanding of scientific ideas while fostering curiosity and a love of science. Science is vital in primary school as it helps children make sense of the world around them and develop essential skills such as curiosity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Through practical investigations and enquiry, pupils learn to ask questions, test ideas, and use evidence to explain their findings. A strong foundation in science also builds confidence, encourages creativity, and prepares children for future learning and informed decision-making in everyday life.

Primary Science Quality Mark
At Holy Trinity, we took part in the Primary Science Quality Mark to strengthen the quality of science teaching and learning across our school. The process encouraged us to reflect on our practice, develop staff confidence, and ensure science is engaging, inclusive, and well planned for all pupils. By working towards the Quality Mark, we aimed to raise the profile of science, inspire curiosity and enquiry, and embed high-quality science as a key part of our curriculum.
